This role offers a springboard to a career in both industry and academia to postgraduates and postdocs interested in sustainable innovation in construction and related disciplines. The successful candidate will get to apply their commercial, technical, project management and creative skills on a daily basis to a cutting edge innovative project that will shape the future of additive manufacturing in construction.

The candidate must be available to start the role on or before 10 April 2024.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a postgraduate/doctoral degree in management, economics, sustainability, and/or innovation in construction. The post holder will lead a cutting edge innovation project that will develop an assurance scheme for BSI on low-carbon additive manufacturing in the construction industry to provide the necessary confidence in this emerging technology and unlock its full transformative potential. Based at BSI, the UK’s National Standards Body, the KTP Associate will coordinate the development of this innovative assurance scheme from the beginning to the end, and engage with industry stakeholders to establish himself/herself as a thought leader in the field of low-carbon additive manufacturing in construction.

This will involve a review of the existing low-carbon additive manufacturing technologies, supply chain models and regulatory practices as well as the development of key evaluation criteria and information requirements that will underpin the development of the new assurance scheme for low-carbon additive manufacturing in construction.

Plus, the successful candidate will be part of the prestigious 48-year-old national Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme offering a dedicated professional development budget, a network of fellow Associates from many disciplines and training and mentoring opportunities. The Associate will also have the opportunity to write publications about their work alongside the academic and company team.

Strong communication skills, a collaborative and self-motivated attitude, and good project management skills will ensure the KTP Associate fully enjoys the benefits of their unique position at the interface between industry and academia (including their close access to sustainable construction experts from both UCL and BSI). A background in management, economics, sustainability and/or innovation in the construction industry will enable the post-holder i) to analyse the state of the knowledge and practice in additive manufacturing in the construction industry, and ii) to lead the development of a new assurance scheme for low-carbon additive manufacturing in construction.
