We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Trainee Test Analyst to join the Testing Team in IT Services. The Testing Team is part of the Programme and Project Delivery Group located in central Oxford. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working.

About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Associate Trainee Test Analyst in the IT Services department. The role of IT Services is to ensure that the University of Oxford has the robust, reliable, and high-performing IT facilities it requires to support the distinctive needs of those engaged in teaching, learning, research, administration, and strategic planning. This is an opportunity to join the Testing Team as an Associate Trainee Test Analyst, learning and supporting the delivery of software testing across many different technologies. You will work with experienced Testing professionals to deliver both functional and non-functional testing for IT projects.
Covering a wide range of systems, technologies, and methodologies you will be able to develop your Testing skills, understanding of IT systems and the processes necessary for delivering successful IT projects.
About You

- ISEB / ISTQB qualifications in software testing, or equivalent qualifications or experience.
- Analytical Skills: The ability to analyse requirements and understand the functionality of the system under test.
- Attention to Detail: Thoroughness and attention to detail are critical to identifying even the smallest defects in software.
- Communication Skills: Good communication skills are essential for documenting test plans, writing test cases, and reporting bugs to the development team. Clear communication helps in fostering collaboration and understanding among team members.
- Test Design Techniques: Understanding and applying various testing techniques to design effective test cases, such as equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, and decision tables.
- Authoring Test Cases: Writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test cases that cover various scenarios to ensure maximum test coverage.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing requirements, environments, and project timelines. Testers often need to adjust their testing approach based on project needs.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Being able to identify, isolate, and troubleshoot issues effectively is crucial. Testers should be proactive in problem-solving and work closely with developers to resolve issues.
- Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Knowledge of the different phases of software development and testing processes, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Collaboration: Working collaboratively with developers, business analysts, subject matter experts and other team members to ensure a shared understanding of requirements and to facilitate efficient issue resolution.
- Time Management: Manage time efficiently to meet testing deadlines and prioritize testing efforts based on the criticality of different functionalities.
- Continuous Learning: A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and testing methodologies as the field of software testing is continually evolving.
Desirable
- Project Methodologies: An understanding of the variety of project methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile, PRINCE2, DevOps etc.
- Testing Tools: Familiarity with test management tools, bug tracking tools, and automation tools can be beneficial. Examples include Microfocus ALM, Jira, Selenium and others.
- Technical Knowledge: A basic understanding of programming, networking, cyber security, usability, and accessibility.
