Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professor) of Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at Lady Margaret Hall under arrangements described in the Job Description and Person Specification. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post-holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.
We wish to appoint a candidate whose research interests involve any aspects of Organic Chemistry. The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a field relevant to research in Organic Chemistry, and have a very strong track record, or show outstanding promise, in independent research. They should be able to demonstrate their research vision and the ability to attract research funding from appropriate sources. They should also provide evidence of the ability to lead a group of researchers at different career stages. They should be able to demonstrate excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels in both the Department and at Lady Margaret Hall, as well as participating in the administration of the subject and in the wider life of the College.
The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA and Lady Margaret Hall, Norham Gardens, Oxford, OX2 6QA.
The combined University and College salary will be according to experience on a scale from £48,835 - £65,574 p.a. Benefits of the Tutorial Fellowship at Lady Margaret Hall include Governing Body membership, a housing allowance of £9,572 per annum, a research allowance of £1,604 p.a., access to housing loan and health care schemes, a teaching room in College, and full College dining rights.
An allowance of £2,846 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive research culture. The Department has held an Athena SWAN Silver Award since September 2015 in recognition of its commitment to addressing gender inequalities, to tackling the unequal representation of women in science, and to improving career progression for female academics. We have a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working, and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence. We are committed to ensuring an inclusive interview process, and will also reimburse up to £250 towards any additional care costs (for a dependent child or adult) incurred as a result of attending an interview for this position.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford. All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Friday 21 January 2022 can be considered. The interviews are likely to take place in mid-March and candidates should ideally be available to travel to Oxford for this period. The anticipated start date is 1 October 2022.
Enquiries about the post should be addressed to Ms Natalie Armstrong, PA to Professor Ed Anderson; email: [email protected] or telephone: +44 (0)1865 285006.
