Assistant School Secretary (Strategic Projects)

Updated: 25 days ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Deadline: 03 Apr 2024

The Office of the School of the Physical Sciences seeks to appoint an Assistant School Secretary (Strategic Projects). The purpose of this role is to provide strategic and operational leadership to a range of projects across the School, with a particular focus initially on EDI and culture issues. The role holder will manage all aspects of the projects - analysing issues, building consensus around ways forward, securing funding if needed and ensuring appropriate governance.

As well as working on EDI and workplace culture issues, the role holder will work with the Departments of the School, and also with key contacts in the central administration of the University, to deliver a range of projects which are key to taking forward the vision of the School and its Departments as well as key to the University's change programmes (in particular the work on Reimagining Professional Services).

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone experienced in management and administration in research intensive HEIs to make a real difference to the ways of working in one of the UK's leading HEIs in the Physical Sciences.

The School Office is a small and friendly team based in the centre of Cambridge. The team practices hybrid working and is very flexible to colleagues' non-work commitments, but there is a strong face to face culture in our way of working and this role is likely to need to be physically present in the office at least 3 or 4 days per week.

We are looking for someone who is educated to at least first-degree level, and has experience of EDI issues and leading change in a complex organisation. The ideal candidate will be able to assess complex situations and have the gravitas and negotiating skills to take forward solutions, winning the support of senior stakeholders.

Further detail as to what we are looking for is set out in the Further Information document. A qualification in the Physical Sciences is not required.

Informal enquiries about this role may be directed to the School Secretary, Dr Jim Bellingham, at [email protected]

The closing date is Wednesday 3 April 2024 (midnight). Interviews will be held during the weeks beginning 15 and 22 April.
