Assistant Retail Manager

Grade F1-F6 (£28,979 - £32,376, starting salary £28,979)

37 hours per week on a rota basis which will include some evening and weekend working.               

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Retail Manager within our recently refurbished SPAR store. The successful candidate will support the Retail Manager in managing, training and supporting the Retail and Bakery teams to deliver an outstanding level of service at all times ensuring suitable levels of stock are available and well merchandised and that the interaction in customer care towards our customers during their visit is of an exceptional standard.

    Reporting to: Retail Manager

    Indirect reports: a Retail team of up to 50 staff and a Bakery team of up to 15 staff

    Responsibilities 

    1.      Organisational/service development

    To attend compulsory training days and complete all online training programmes as required.

    To ensure that HUSU strategies and values are embraced by the Retail team.

    2.     Service delivery

    To ensure that all store merchandising standards are of the highest level and that the store is fully replenished prior to the end of the working shift.

    To follow good stock management processes ensuring that stock is rotated and organised on the shop floor and stock room areas.

    To personally deliver exceptional customer service at all times and as they arise to deal with customer complaints in an efficient manner.

    To complete Retail food and non-food orders ensuring that suitable levels of stock are available at all times.

    To ensure that all deliveries and returns are checked and that any discrepancies on stock are reported through to the supplier for credit.

    To carry out regular stocktakes ensuring that action is taken on discrepancies that are identified.

    To ensure that the reduction and wastage store procedures are followed and that actions are taken to minimise wastage when necessary.

    To build and maintain relationships with internal departments of HUSU ensuring that Commercial Services works in partnership with Membership Services, Finance, HR and Marketing departments.

    To build and maintain good working relationships with external stakeholders and suppliers.

    Keep up to date with current promotions and new products ensuring that at every opportunity you are promoting these to our Student members.

    To actively market and promote products and services that the Retail shop provides via digital social media platforms and face to face interactions with our Student members.

    3.     Reporting and information management 

    To effectively communicate in a timely manner to all members of the Retail and Bakery teams

    4.    Staff management

    Support the Retail Manager in the recruitment, induction, training, development and discipline of the Retail team and in accordance with agreed procedures that rotas, timesheets and reviews are completed and submitted within appropriate timescales.

    To be responsible for the ongoing training of Retail team members ensuring that they have a continued level of Supervision, information and support to complete all the jobs required of them throughout their shifts.

    5.     General duties and responsibilities

    To support the Retail Manager in the accountability that budgeted sales and profit targets are met.

    To deputise for the Retail Manager in their absence.

    To act as designated Commercial Duty Manager as required and be responsible for the opening up and closing down of Student Central.

    To carry out any other reasonable instruction asked by the Retail Manager, Commercial Operations Manager or Senior Leadership Team.

    6.    Compliance

    To ensure all opening and closing checklists for the Retail shop are completed and documented as per the store standards.

    To ensure all Due Diligence checks and records are completed accurately as per the store standards.

    To ensure that all functions of the POS till system are completed as per the store procedures and that any till discrepancies, large void or refund transactions are reported to the Retail Manager.

    To ensure that all functions of the back office system are completed as per the store procedures.

    To ensure that all financial store procedures are carried out including the secure receipt, handling, storage and banking of monies.

    To ensure that the secure receipt, handling and storage of stock including the security of all shop dedicated areas are carried out as per the store procedures.

    To ensure that you and the Retail team are operating to all statutory laws and store procedures in relation to age related products.

    To ensure that you, the Retail and Bakery team are operating to statutory laws and store procedures in relation to Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and Licensing regulations.
