Assistant Professor of Early Medieval History [Temporary Cover]

The Faculty of History wishes to recruit a Temporary Assistant Professor in Medieval History. This is a 2 year Temporary Assistant Professorship to cover the the absence of Professor Caroline Goodson, while she is seconded to the American Academy in Rome. The role will include teaching and examining at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels across a range of early medieval European topics; expertise relating to the medieval Mediterranean may be an advantage.

The appointee will have Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching responsibilities. The postholder will take on extensive examining duties to ensure the smooth assessment of a large number of undergraduates.

The postholder is expected to make a substantial contribution to classes and training in the MPhil in Medieval History and to supervise MPhil students. They will undertake examining for the MPhil and may be asked to assess or examine PhD students. They will participate in postgraduate research seminars, such as the Medieval History seminar and contribute to the Faculty's research culture.

The postholder will belong to the Ancient & Medieval Subject Group and will contribute to the administration of its activities. They may also be expected to take on one of the smaller administrative roles in the Faculty.

We are looking for someone with a developing bibliography of research publication, who can demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching at both UG and PG levels and is willing to take a leading role in the development of teaching materials for UG and PG students. They should be willing to undertake management and administrative duties and also have experience of/aptitude for organising and participating in collaborative teaching and research.
