Student Services is a diverse yet integrated, leading-edge Directorate which supports the student journey through guidance, support, practical services and educational opportunities for students and staff.

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as Assistant Director (Wellbeing), who will be a member of the Directorate Executive team with overall responsibility for the provision of a range of specialist services to support the wellbeing of students and staff. They will work in partnership with colleagues across the University to support complex cases, and provide expertise and advice to the wider University on student wellbeing, safeguarding and support issues.

They will also work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to undertake ongoing review and development of these services, including implementation of robust digital systems with effective reporting mechanisms to underpin a comprehensive and connected approach to student case management and support. This is an excellent opportunity to provide leadership across a range of professional and dedicated teams, and to deliver change which will have a direct impact on our diverse student community.

Your priorities will include:

  • Direct leadership and higher-level management of a range of services; including the Counselling Service, Disability Services, Student Funding Unit, Student Support and University Health Service; ensuring that strategic priorities and targets are set, communicated and achieved.
  • Leading the future development and enhancement of student support and wellbeing services, ensuring high quality and responsive services which are well placed to deliver for all students.
  • Providing expertise and advice on student wellbeing and support to the wider University community, and developing strategies and projects to enhance wellbeing.
  • Working closely with colleagues to drive the strategic development and implementation of robust digital systems with effective reporting mechanisms to underpin a comprehensive and connected approach to student case management and support.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Degree with relevant professional/higher qualifications and/or extensive vocational/sectoral experience with evidence of career progression.
  • Significant senior level experience of the management and delivery of wellbeing interventions in a higher education environment. A strong and demonstrable understanding of systems and processes involved in managing student support functions in a higher education environment and how these relate to the wider University as well as relevant external regulations and requirements.
  • Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the principles, theory and practice relating to at least three of wellbeing advice and support, counselling and mental health provision, disability support, student finance, retention and progression activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading complex and diverse teams.
