The School of Veterinary Medicine and Science (SVMS) is looking to recruit an Assistant/Associate Professor to further enhance our world class research in virology. You will join and contribute to the One Virology strategic research area with a focus on health and disease in a medical and/or veterinary medical context.

You will have a demonstrable track record in the theme of virus–host interactions and virus control; examples include understanding the mechanisms of action of antivirals and application of ~omics to understand virus–host interactions. We are looking for a research vision that complements the current strengths of One Virology and has the potential for interdisciplinary and international research collaborations. The role holder will develop a career-appropriate track record in both research and teaching. You will contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the SVMS and you will act as a role model that promotes a positive research culture. Training to PGCHE level will be provided, as required, to support the role holder in teaching delivery.

The role holder will have a growing or established reputation in their field and demonstrable potential to make a significant impact on research, including a clear plan for developing and sustaining a research programme. They will develop a research programme with a focus on health and disease in either a human or veterinary medical context, addressing either fundamental mechanisms or clinically relevant concerns.

You will undertake research, individually and collaboratively, and publish high-quality, impactful papers regularly. You will seek and secure funding through the development of your own research proposals and be active in research and knowledge exchange projects both internally and externally. You will take an active role in supervising doctoral researchers and will take responsibility for leading new research and other initiatives linked to your area of expertise.

You will have the ability to deliver a high standard of teaching through a variety of methods to support the School's teaching requirements, with the potential to contribute toward delivery at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The SVMS undertakes research on key aspects of disease biology and animal health. Research at the School is integrated into the University structure with established world class research in biomedical sciences. Research undertaken at the school is relevant to both Veterinary Medicine and Science and Comparative and Human Medicine.
