About the Role
The Level 7 Archivist and Record Manager apprenticeship is a new technical training route into the archives sector in England and is equivalent to the master’s degree typically required to become a qualified archivist. It is designed to provide a route to a professional qualification for those that do not wish to pursue a traditional degree based academic qualification and encourages a wide range of people to pursue a career in archives.
The post and apprenticeship training will commence in September/October and will last for 3 years (36 months) followed by a six-month end-point assessment period. Over the course of the apprenticeship you will spend four days per week working in the Edge Hill University Archive and one day each week will be spend learning about archives management with an external training provider. The final six months of your contract will be dedicated to a project and end point assessment based on the work you have undertaken at Edge Hill. Once completed you will be a fully qualified Archivist ready to apply for professional roles in the sector.
During your time at Edge Hill, you will be involved in the day-to-day delivery and development of the Edge Hill Archive service, working with collections that chart the history and development of the University, and unique and specialist collections such as the Terence Davies Archive.
As well as your formal training, you will receive on the job training in a broad range of tasks that will support you to develop your skills and expertise.
This apprenticeship will provide the right candidate with a unique and exciting opportunity to train as an archivist in a supportive and friendly archive team within the wider Library and Learning Services department at Edge Hill University.
Please note this is a fixed term post for a total period of 42 months with an anticipated start date of September/October 2024. The successful candidate will be required to go through a pre-sign up eligibility check with the training provider before commencing the apprenticeship.

About You
As Archives Apprentice you will have an interest in the study of the past and demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm towards pursuing a career in archives and records management. You will hold experience in working within a team and working to meet deadlines, as well as good spoken and written communication skills.
This is a developmental role in which you will gradually increase your range of duties and responsibilities as your progress through the apprenticeship.
