As part of our annual Faculty’s Apprenticeship Training Program, we have an exciting opportunity in the Faculty of Engineering to join the government’s level 3 Apprenticeship Scheme.

This is a great chance for you to grow your career in Engineering and we will support and help you to develop the skills, experience and knowledge you will need to succeed. 

You will undertake a full time 4-year Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery provided by the Faculty of Engineering commencing on 2nd September 2024. 

You will receive practical training in the faculty’s extensively equipped workshops and broad-based training on a range of standard/specialised carpentry and joinery processes, all from our experienced and qualified technicians. 

Over the first 6-8 months you will undertake basic training followed by focused specialist training within designated teams and facilities across the faculty, allowing you to build your new practical skills and knowledge in the specialist engineering discipline of carpentry and joinery.

During the apprenticeship, there will be opportunities for you to learn and train on a wide range of cutting-edge engineering technologies including: 

  • Design, build and modification
  • 5 axis CAD/CAM
  • Other engineering processes/areas as needed 

Your formal academic training for the Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme will be over a 4-year period and will be achieved via a day release program at a HE College specific to your needs where you will be expected to progress to level 3 in craft/bench carpentry and joinery. 

Qualifications to be undertaken will include: 

  • Level 2 – Intermediate Carpentry & Joinery (if not already achieved) 
  • Level 3 – Advanced Carpentry & Joinery 
  • Internal & external training courses relevant to role 

You should have, or be expected to achieve a minimum of one of the following sections: 

  • Four GCSEs including English & Maths – grades 3 & above (old equivalent grades D & above) OR  
  • Level 1 or Level 2 qualification in carpentry and joinery OR
  • Relevant work experience. 

You are an enthusiastic individual who is eager to learn new skills/techniques working within a team of highly skilled and supportive technicians. You will have the ability to show attention to detail and rise to the challenge this fantastic opportunity presents.
