About Us
We welcome applications for a Lecturer in Ethics & Values and Academic Director of the AKC (Associate of King’s College). This post, and the AKC itself, are part of an historic partnership between the Dean’s Office and the Department of Theology & Religious Studies.
The Department of Theology & Religious Studies, which opened in 1846, is now a leading research and teaching department, in the top 10 in the UK for Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies ([QS World Rankings by Subject 2022](http:// www.kcl.ac.uk/trs))
The AKC, part of the Office of the Dean, is an inclusive, research-led programme of lectures open to all students at King’s, which enriches the academic curriculum, and runs alongside students’ main programme of study: www.kcl.ac.uk/akc .
About the Role
The AKC programme has expanded rapidly in recent years, and more than 3000 members of the King’s community – undergraduates, postgraduates, staff, and alumni – now follow the course every year.
You will be a practical and creative advocate for learning, research, and knowledge exchange. You will have expertise in ethics and values, whether from a philosophical, theological, or other disciplinary or interdisciplinary background. Your work may be situated in relation to any ethical, religious, or cultural tradition(s) and context(s). You will enjoy promoting your field to a wide audience from across the whole University and beyond. You will have excellent organisational skills, be a team-worker, and be able to devise and implement exciting and popular series of lectures delivered by a range of internal and outside speakers.
You will divide your time between the AKC (50%) and the TRS Department (50%), and will be provided with an office in both.
For the AKC, you will have academic oversight of the AKC programme, working with academics and practitioners throughout King’s to deliver lectures which showcase research across the University. You will work collaboratively with the AKC team and the Steering Committee on strategic priorities and programme development. Working alongside the AKC Manager, you will be a supportive and capable mentor within the AKC team, and you will also work with other senior leaders in the Dean’s Office on vision and strategy across the wider department.
In TRS, you will contribute to scholarship and research, and to the research culture of the Department, of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, and of King’s College London as a whole. You will undertake teaching and assessment within the Department, especially in relation to ethics and values. You will contribute to the administration of the Department as required.
We welcome applications from members of groups that have been marginalised on any grounds. King’s is an inclusive and welcoming place to work and study, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
