Job Purpose

To support the planning and delivery of a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Research and Innovation for Global Health Transformation (RIGHT-6) funded programme grant: Affordable Cardiac Rehabilitation: An Outreach Inter-disciplinary Strategic Study (“ACROSS”).

The successful candidate will be expected to help manage and direct this complex and challenging project, working closely with study co-Chief Investigators (Professors Rod Taylor and Imran Chaudhry), Project Administrator, Co-applicant team, partner country leads and managers and other partner stakeholders and co-investigators, providing administrative and project support to ensure that study activities are carried out smoothly to ensure that all milestones are achieved and reported to NIHR.

Based in Glasgow, the post will require some travel within and outside of the UK. You will also carry out the drafting of documents for the research study, the writing of reports and assist in editing and preparing manuscripts for publication.

Main duties and responsibilities

1.      Responsible for the planning leadership , development, organisation, and management of  all ACROSS project related documentation and records.

2.      Ensuring ACROSS project plans and actions complement broader operational/strategic plans meeting both internal and external requirements.

3.      Apply professional/specialist/technical expertise, judgement, and leadership to deliver a quality service and meet service standards and requirements including developing strong relationships and collaborations between a wide range of external and internal stakeholders.

4.      Ensure that there are appropriate quality management processes in place to ensure that the final deliverables of the project comply with stakeholder requirements, appropriate legislation, University policies and procedures.

5.      Support the ACROSS co-Chief Investigators in the project leadership including driving the project lifecycle including developing plans for the delivery of required work and allocating the work according to resource type required, availability and skills; monitoring progress of work against plan, evaluating alternatives and initiating corrective action when required.

6.      Manage resources/budgets within allocated project/area, where appropriate to ensure maximum value is delivered for resources deployed.

7.      Deploy a robust and responsive risk management approach to identify, assess, monitor, and actively manage risks.

8.      Support the ACROSS co-Chief Investigators and wider project team to prepare NIHR regular reports and report for ethics committees, internal research committees and meetings as appropriate.

9.      Oversee the local country teams in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan to plan, deliver and secure ethical and relevant governance approvals.

10.   Supervise the ACROSS Project Administrator post and oversee their responsibilities that will include the supporting of various project committees and maintenance of the project website.

11.   Work with the ACROSS Communications Manager around the communication of research results within the research group and other recognised avenues of dissemination.

12.   Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the ACROSS co-Chief Investigators.

13.   Engage in reasonable professional development activities as appropriate.

14.   To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s strategic plan

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge /Qualifications

Essential:

A1. Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles.

Or

A2. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a management role(s).

Desirable:

B1. Professional qualification in a relevant subject area.

B2. Good knowledge of the trial landscape, including national and international academic research.

Skils

Essential:

C1. Demonstrable, structured approach to project/trial management including reporting skills.

C2. Ability to write detailed project plans and ensure these are agreed and communicated with the project team, project committees and stakeholders.

C3. Proven capability to use own initiative, and analytical and problem-solving skills, in a specialist area or across a broad range of management functions.

C4. Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining principles of collaboration and meeting challenging deadlines.

C5. Proven ability to manage relationships and liaise and cooperate with people across organisational boundaries.

C6. Strong IT skills in project management (e.g. database, spreadsheet, word processing, layout and presentation) with ability to develop skills in response to technological change.

C7. Effective negotiation and diplomacy skills with ability to influence and motivate others.

C8. Effective writing and communication skills considering cultural contexts and varying communication styles.

C9. Understanding of applicable UK, EU, and international data protection legislation.

Desirable:

D1. Knowledge of the scientific principles of social and public health research.

D2. Knowledge of quantitative or qualitative research methods.

D3. Knowledge of the regulatory framework governing research involving humans.

Experience

Essential:

E1. Experience of managing complex projects using project management methodologies across the full project lifecycle with a successful track record of delivery.

E2. Experience of producing clear project management documents with sponsor and stakeholder focused content.

E3. Experience of creating and maintaining schedules of work as an active tool for staff delivering work packages.

E4 Providing high calibre professional services within a complex multi-stakeholder profile context.

E5 Evidence of planning, managing, and delivering research projects in a health research environment.

E6. Experience of management of self and others.

Desirable:

F1. Experience of working on projects with international partners, especially from low- or middle-income countries.

The overarching aims of ACROSS, an ambitious and large scale global five-year study is to co-develop (with patients, caregivers, clinicians and service commissioners) an applicable and affordable home-based rehabilitation programme for people with multimorbidity that includes coronary heart disease and/or heart failure with co-existing depression and/or anxiety and evaluate its acceptability, clinical effectiveness and cost effectiveness of its implementation in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan and to determine its scalability and sustainability. The project is led by the University of Glasgow with a number of key partner organisations: Ishrat Husain Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning; Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, India, Bangladesh University of Health Sciences: and Universities of Glasgow, Manchester, and Leicester and Heart Manual Department, Lothian Health Board.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 8, £48,350 - £56,021 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and has funding available until 30th June 2029.
