Offer Description

Early Career Fellowships offer a three-year salaried post for researchers at the beginning of their academic career, providing them with the opportunity for career advancement and enabling them to undertake a significant piece of original publishable research.

The scheme provides 50 per cent of the Fellow’s total salary costs – up to a limit of £26,000 per annum – with the host university providing the remaining share. The Trust’s maximum annual contribution will be pro-rated if the Fellowship is held on a part-time basis. Research expenses of £6,000 a year are also available.

To be eligible, applicants must either have a degree from a UK university or currently hold an academic post in the UK. Applicants must have submitted their doctoral thesis not more than four years before the application closing date of 22 February 2024. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have taken a break in their academic career. Those currently registered for a doctorate may apply only if they have submitted their doctoral thesis by the closing date. Applications must be made with the support of a host university.

Fellowships are tenable at UK universities with research degree awarding powers for three years on a full-time basis and must begin between 1 September 2024 and 1 May 2025. The Trust will support requests to hold the award part-time over a proportionately longer period for health related reasons, disability or childcare commitments.
