The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) at Aston University is one of the world leading research centres, coordinating over 60 research projects funded externally by the UK Government, European Commission, industry and charities. Success of AiPT is backed by a team of research project managers who support project implementation and enable AIPT’s environment of teamwork and collaborative research grant development. 

You will oversee the implementation of the EU Doctoral Network NESTOR (GA  101119983), funded by the Horizon Europe Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), with the UK candidates being funded by the EPSRC, and support the portfolio of existing projects. AIPT is looking to recruit a Senior Project Manager with additional focus on the development of new income-generating opportunities through research proposal writing. You will have in-depth knowledge of the UK and international research funding landscape. This includes extensive and varied experience in managing large-scale collaborative research and innovation projects within academia. 

The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification, along with certifications in management, leadership, and project management (e.g., ILM, CMI, Prince2, Agile, PMP). You will have substantial experience in writing research proposals, managing budgets, and negotiating service contracts or project requirements. You will also have experience in creating communication strategies, organising large national and international events, and contributing at a senior level within an organisation.
