We are looking for a skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on an innovative research project that has been funded through the Horizon Europe Pathfinder scheme. This interdisciplinary, intersectoral project looks to develop a “plug and play” bioinspired membrane system for applications as diverse as water treatment and blood dialysis.

You will form part of a team of researchers, spread across four academic and two industrial partners. Your role will be to express, extract, purify, and characterise membrane proteins using polymers to form protein lipid discs. The ultimate aim is to embed these into a bulk polymer membrane to form a bioinspired filtration membrane. The work is a collaboration with industrial partners so an interdisciplinary/intersectoral mindset is essential. The project will be based in the new Aston Institute for Membrane Excellence (AIME ), a ~£10 million investment from Research England.

You will have a strong track record in cell membrane biochemistry and/or membrane models. Techniques will focus on biochemical and biophysical assays of membrane proteins and protein lipid discs.  You will be able to learn new techniques and full training will be given as needed. Experience of driving research projects on a day-to-day basis is required.

Candidates who have recently submitted their PhD and are awaiting award will be considered.
