Tenure Track Assistant Professor towards Associate Professor

in the field of biomedical sciences

Starting date : 2024

Duration of the contract: 2 years, renewable twice

The Department of Biomedical Sciences (DBS ) is the main center for research activities in metabolic, cardiovascular and renal diseases, regenerative medicine and aging, and is a privileged site of interaction with the Clinical Services of the University Hospital (CHUV ). The department includes more than 100 scientists that take advantage of variety of research models to study the biological mechanisms governing the function of the human body and that are responsible for the appearance of human diseases. In addition to its research mission, the DBS is playing a central role in teaching physiology and basic pharmacology to biology and medical students.

Main tasks – Research:

  • Conduct independent and innovative fundamental or translational research in the biomedical field, financed by expert funds and published in international journals with expertise. In compliance with legal and ethical provisions, ensure the direction of a research group, coordinate its research with that developed by other groups of the Department, in a spirit of collaboration. Collaborate in the scientific and academic life of the Department and the Faculty, ensure outreach at regional, national and international levels, while actively participating in international congresses.

Main tasksTeaching:

  • Participate in the teaching activities of the DBS at the School of biology and medicine (structured teaching, supervision of master's / thesis work, optional courses, practical work, management). Contribute to thesis directors and MD, PhD and MD-PhD thesis committees / juries, as well as doctoral programs Organize and participate in internal and external seminars, etc.

Desired profile:

  • PhD, MD or MD / PhD, with specialization in biomedical sciences in areas within the main research topics of the department, which include metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, renal function, aging and regenerative medicine.   Strong track record in research, publications in high-level international journals and ability to secure expert funds. Teaching knowledge at faculty level. Advanced managerial skills (management of various teams and projects). Preference will be given to a personality open to communication and cooperation.
  • Proficiency in French (level at least B2, C1 ideally) or ability to acquire it quickly.

The successful candidate will receive an installation credit as well as an annual research and consumable endowment in a dynamic research environment.
