The Department of Architecture (www.arch.ethz.ch ) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position. The professorship is located at the Institute of Technology in Architecture ITA (www.ita.arch.ethz.ch ).
The future professor is expected to teach the fundamentals of structural design, which is a core aspect of architecture, and thus a key competence and skill expected from an architecture graduate. She or he will be responsible for core courses for students in the Bachelor’s degree programme, which cover the basics of structural design, structural analysis as well as construction and strength of relevant materials. The professor will also be expected to offer courses in the Master’s degree programme, supervise doctoral students and collaborate with chairs within the department and throughout ETH Zurich, also in relation with the supervision of master’s theses. Close collaboration with the existing chairs at the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) is of particular importance. Candidates are expected to propose and develop a state-of-the-art research agenda in the field of structural design and engineering.
Successful applicants are internationally acclaimed with an acknowledged position and have excellent professional competence and practical experience in the field of structural design and in the implementation, planning and project management of architecturally and technically demanding buildings. They have knowledge on the latest digital workflows and opportunities of digitalization. Additional qualifications include a university degree – preferably with a doctoral degree – and experience, both in research and teaching in the academic context (bachelor and master). Competence in leading a team and commitment to the development of the Department of Architecture beyond the boundaries of the own field of expertise are expected. The language of instruction should be German or English.
