Materials science and technology are our passion. With our cutting-edge research, Empa's around 1,100 employees make essential contributions to the well-being of society for a future worth living. Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain.
The
Laboratory for Thin Films and Photovoltaicsis well known for its innovative research in the field of inorganic and organic-inorganic hybrid thin-film photovoltaic and battery technologies. The Laboratory holds the world record power conversion efficiency of flexible CIGS and all-perovskite tandem solar cells.
We are looking for a motivated postdoc with a strong experimental background in materials and chemistry to develop high-efficiency flexible perovskite solar cells and mini-modules using slot-die coating. You will be embedded in a collaborative Horizon Europe research project, which will enable you to interact and collaborate with European academic and industrial partners.
Your tasks
- Development of slot-die-coated perovskite absorbers on both glass and flexible substrates
- Establish a high-throughput characterization platform to evaluate the homogeneity of layers deposited by scalable methods
- Fabrication and characterization of solar cells and mini-modules using various techniques, including stability tests
- Identification of loss mechanisms in solar cells and mini-modules and developing mitigation strategies
- Responsibility about fabrication and characterization equipment
- Dissemination of results in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences
- Support the administration of the European project, including project meetings and project reporting
- Co-supervision of PhD and master students
- Assistance in writing research proposals
Your profile
- PhD degree in Material science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or related fields
- Willingness to conduct independent, interdisciplinary research in the field of perovskite solar cells
- Experience in slot-die coating is advantageous
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment towards a common goal
- Proficient English is required, and knowledge of German is of advantage
Our offer
We offer an international, highly stimulating research environment with excellent infrastructure and broad interdisciplinary surroundings with plenty of possibilities for personal and professional development. You will work on important and promising solutions to the global energy problem in an international environment.
The starting date is October 2024 or upon mutual agreement. The work will be carried out at Empa in Dübendorf. The initial contract is for one year and can be extended depending on the performance.
We live a culture of inclusion and respect. We welcome all people who are interested in innovative, sustainable and meaningful activities - that's what counts.
