Job Description
Your responsibilities
As an Optics-Electronics Engineer, you will join the Geodetic Metrology Group within the Beams Department (BE) which provides metrology and alignment for components installed in the accelerators, their beam transfer lines and the physics experiments throughout the CERN complex.
In this position, you will contribute to the High Luminosity project (HL-LHC) within CERNs flagship experiment, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). You will be entrusted with ensuring the optimal functioning of existing Frequency Scanning Interferometry (FSI) based optical systems and sensors.
Specifically, you will:
- Perform regular diagnostics, troubleshooting, and necessary repairs;
- Participate in the installation and commissioning of new FSI-based systems, setting up hardware, conducting initial tests and ensuring these systems are seamlessly integrated into our existing infrastructure;
- Work on R&D projects, involving the implementation of new technologies and the design and testing of prototypes to improve measurement accuracy, efficiency, and the overall capabilities of our systems.
About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
