Welcome to Linnaeus University! We meet the societal challenges of today and tomorrow in a spirit of openness, curiosity and creativity. By creating arenas for exchange of knowledge from different subjects, fields and cultures, we open up for new ideas and create new opportunities for long-term sustainable societal development. Linnaeus University – where people grow.

The School of Business and Economics is one of five faculties at the Linnaeus University and hosts the subject area of economics. At the School of Business and Economics there are 3200 students and 200 researchers, teachers and other staff engaged in teaching and research. Among other things, the School of Business and Economics offers eleven undergraduate programs in Business, Economics and Tourism, and eight Master’s programs.

The Department conducts both empirical and theoretical research in several areas and is particularly strong in microeconomics, econometrics, labor economics, public economics, and computationally intensive methods (e.g. machine learning) and analysis of random matrices. Much of the empirical work is done with large and high-quality Swedish register data.  Examples of the department’s recent publications can be found here: https://lnu.se/globalassets/feh/organisation/mot-ekonomihogskolan/recent-selected-publications.pdf . Many of the department members are actively engaged in policy work for the government and other organizations. Most of the research at the department is currently conducted under the research platform “Demographic change and the public sector” which is oriented towards issues in applied microeconomics (e.g., public, labor, and micro economics). This hiring is part of a broader strategy of the department to create a new, leading research environment for applied economics and policy analysis.
