Researcher in Fire Safety focusing on evacuation behaviour in wildfires (PA2023/3809)

The division of fire safety engineering conducts research and teaching that relates to fire and its consequences. Teaching takes place mainly at the Fire Protection Engineering program and the International Master in Fire Safety Technology, the latter is a program that is primarily aimed at international students. The division consists of approximately 15 employees, mainly university teachers and doctoral students. The division of Fire Safety Engineering acts in an international context and has contact with research organizations nationally and internationally.

The main duties involved in a researcher position is to conduct research in the subject area. For this position the subject area is human behaviour in wildfire evacuation. The position is linked to the EU-funded WUITIPS project. This is an international project led by the Polytechnic University of Catalunya (Spain) and including Efectis (France), Diputació de Girona (Spain), Lund University (Sweden), Entente pour la forêt méditerranéenne (France). This project focuses on the investigation of fire safety in touristic areas which are in the border between two countries. The Division of FSE is involved in the part of the project related to the assessment of human vulnerability. The objective includes developing guidelines aimed at reducing people's vulnerability in case of a wildfire emergency in touristic areas. This is performed by reviewing and adapting human behaviour models and subsequently use them as a base for the identification of suitable strategies aimed at human protection. The purpose of the position is to perform independent research in line with the scope of the WUITIPS project.

Detailed description of the work duties, such as:

• Research within the subject area
• Supervision of students
• Collaboration with WUITIPS project partners, industry and wider society
• Administration related to the work duties listed above

Required qualifications for the position are:

• A PhD within the subject of the position
• A very good oral and written proficiency in English.
• Knowledge and experience in cross-cultural studies related to wildfire evacuation behaviour

Additional requirements:

• A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
• Being able to work independently and to collaborate with other research groups and industry.
• Experience with international research projects

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term employment of four months. The starting time is by agreement.
