The Division of Insurance Medicine, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, is a leading center for research about sickness absence, morbidity, work, and life situation. Your mission

We are looking for a research specialist to work on studies regarding paid work, sickness absence, and morbidity in later life working with Kristin Farrants, PI of the project. The project is interdisciplinary and you will work closely with other researchers and statisticians. Your duties will primarily involve analysing data as well as writing manuscripts and grant applications. 


Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Documented experience of epidemiological studies is required for the position. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required. The applicant must show a high degree of conscientiousness, initiative, and independence. The work will be conducted in collaboration with the PI and other project members, and places high demands on flexibility and good collaboration skills. Organizational skills such as strong time management, attention to detail, and good record keeping are essential for the position.


Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Experience of working with large databases of survey or register data
  • Experience of statistical analyses in, e.g., SAS, STATA, SPSS, or R
  • Proficiency in scientific writing
  • Knowledge of gerontology and ageing across multiple relevant domains, particularly those relevant to working life and cognition
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to professionals from other disciplines
  • Experience in developing and participating in international collaborations

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • A structured and flexible way of working
  • Published in international journals of high quality
  • Experience in advanced longitudinal statistical methods (e.g. mixed effects models, time-to-event analyses, structural equation models and latent class analysis)
  • Experience in conducting analyses across multiple international and institutional contexts
