A research Assistant position is availalable to work in understanding the role of host-microbiome interactions in intestinal health and diseases using human samples and experimental models. We use state-of-the-art immune proteogenomic technologies for the visualization of thel host-microbiome interactions at the single cell resolution. The Villablanca lab is part of the Department of Medicine, Solna, one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several units that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education, and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

The applicant will work in close collaboration with other PhD students, postdocs and researchers. The applicant is expected to actively perform experimental research, using animal models and human samples, and present results to general and specialized audiences. The technician will be an integral member of the Villablanca research team and will participate in many different ongoing research projects and will be able to learn many cutting edge technologies used in the facility and the research group.

Your profile

Our lab has an opening for a highly creative and motivated research assistant with an interest to perform doctoral studies in the future. We look for a candidate with proficiency and documented laboratory research experience particularly in epithelial biology/immunology, animal models of colitis, organoid culture in vitro. The candidate is expected to work with mouse models of intestinal inflammation and must be able to handle and obtain human samples.

Our research group (PI: Eduardo Villablanca) performs state-of-the-art immune proteogenomic analyses for the visualization of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the homeostatic or pathological host-microbiome interactions in the gut, in the context of mucosal immunology. This ERC-funded project has an emphasis in the identification of host-microbiome niches relevant for health and diseases.

The lab is looking to hire a research assistant to be responsible for handling and processing of human and murine samples, genotyping, and management of the lab responsibilities. Methodologically, in vitro and in vivo approaches using experimental models and patient material will be used.
