Offer Description
Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The Rydén and Mejhert lab aims to understand how alterations in human white adipocyte function are related to cardiometabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and coronary sclerosis. Our group consists of 15-20 members (senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD/master students, and technical staff) and has all the necessary infrastructure to conduct translational research including a fully equipped preclinical laboratory at NEO and a clinical research unit at the Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge.
Your mission
Increased white adipose tissue mass is linked to both type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. However, as these two complications often co-exist the contribution of adipose tissue dysregulation to either of these conditions remains unclear. To this end, we have collected a large clinical cohort where participants have been divided according to the presence or absence of type 2 diabetes and/or cardiovascular disease. From these individuals, we have obtained adipose tissue biopsies, which we will use to generate single-nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomic data. By jointly analyzing these data together with functional assessment of the tissue and assessments of clinical phenotypes, we will for the first-time link white adipose tissue disturbance to these common and serious cardiometabolic complications. We are now looking for an ambitious research assistant that will perform single-nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomic analyses. The work will be undertaken in collaboration with other experts within the group as well as with members of the lab of Patrik Ståhl at SciLife. There will be possibilities to follow-up key findings with wet lab experiments using state-of-the-art methods. The position is for six months but can be extended by six more months pending the completion of the project.
Your profile
The person appointed should have a master’s degree or equivalent. Experience in common programming languages such as R and Python as well as operating systems such as Linux is highly meritorious. It is a clear strength if the applicant has a proven track record in analyzing large datasets and it is expected that the candidate should be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently. Good knowledge in English, written and spoken, is a requirement.
