Research assistant in clinical mycology

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of six divisions in which both research and teaching are conducted. The department is involved in advanced and basic research as well as clinical and epidemiological research. All departments operate in close contact with clinicians at Karolinska University Hospital. The department's role is to transfer and refine medical knowledge to healthcare in collaboration between academia, healthcare and industry. The department's educational activities contribute to most programs and courses within KI's total educational offerings.

Volkan Özenci's research group is currently looking for a research assistant. The position is a  fixed-term employment at full-time for 6 months, with the possibility of extension.


Your role

Main tasks will be within research on microbiological diagnostics of severe fungal infectious diseases such as candidemia, C. auris, including sample collection, clinical verification of methods, including direct identification and resistance testing of pathogenic fungi. It also includes method development work, quality assurance work and processing and analysis of research data. Various administrative tasks may occur e.g. inventory, registration and inventory labeling.


Who are you?

You have education or work experience in the field of medicine or equivalent. Experience of clinical diagnostics of fungi, specialist training in clinical mycology, postgraduate training, work in research, especially identification of fungi with molecular diagnostic methods, resistance determination of fungi with different methods including the EUCAST reference method and clinical experience in the clinical microbiology laboratory is highly meritorious. We would like you to have a high level of English in both speech and writing.
