Research assistant: Aquatic ecology

About the position

We are looking for an assistant for the Stream and Riparian ecology lab at SLU Umeå. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to assist laboratory work on streams and riparian areas. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently in the lab and be familiar with the samples and sampling procedures from water. The predominant task will be to sort aquatic invertebrates. Tasks will include cleaning samples, sorting and possibly identifying aquatic invertebrates, and analyzing bottom substrates.  


Your profile  

Although the candidate does not need to know the species, it is an advantage to have a working knowledge of groups of invertebrates. The work will require microscopy, which may be physically demanding. Experience in forestry, hydrology, riparian zones and ecological sampling methods, hydrological and biochemical laboratory analysis is advantageous. The person we are looking for is flexible, able to accommodate schedule changes and long days in the lab.


About us  

The department consists of about 100 people, of which 11 are professors. Our mission is to promote a better understanding of forest ecosystems and the processes that drive them, and to further develop the principles of how forest ecosystems can best be managed.
