Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet (KI) announces an opportunity to join the Bionanomaterial Technology Laboratory and research group of Principal Investigator Assoc. Professor Dr. Georgios A. Sotiriou as Postdoctoral Fellow in “Optically active nanoparticles for biomedical applications”. The Bionanomaterial Technology Laboratory is an ERC-funded lab and has world-leading expertise in the synthesis of functional nanoscale materials and devices for biomedicine using flame aerosol technology. The focus of the research program lies on studying the physicochemical properties of materials made by aerosol processes and then applying this fundamental understanding to tailor sophisticated functional particles and particle-enabled devices for biomedical applications. Our lab is in a vibrant research environment located in the state-of-the-art research building Biomedicum at the KI Solna Campus.

Your mission

The postdoctoral researcher will work on nanoparticle engineering and bionanomaterial technology. The postdoctoral researcher will work in a team and carry out experimental work, as well as participate in the lab research environment including courses, seminars, and scientific presentations at meetings. Other responsibilities include development of methodology and work routines, literature review, statistical analysis, adhering to the lab manual policies, assisting with administrative tasks, and drafting scientific reports and manuscripts.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

In addition to the aforementioned requirements, the applicant must:

  • Have a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and/or Process Engineering, Pharmaceutical (Nano)technology, or similar field
  • Have excellent spoken and written English
  • Be able to work both independently and sharpened social interaction skills are favourable as the postodoctoral fellow will work as part of a team

Meritorius for the position:

  • Experience in synthesis of nanoparticles (ideally by aerosol processes, but this is not a requirement) and their physicochemical characterization, in spectrometric and in vitro and in vivo imaging techniques, as well as biological experiments (in vitro and ex vivo) is preferred
  • Experience with supervising project students is considered favourable

The above mentioned experience should be shown through published, peer-reviewed publications.
