Postdoctoral Researcher in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR)

Updated: 16 days ago

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

At the division of Neurogeriatrics we investigate neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease from different perspectives, emphasizing the integration of basic neuroscience research with clinical, health economics and outcomes research. Rapid progress in this area of research has led to the discovery of new methods for early detection, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. These new technologies are in the process of being introduced in routine care, and health economic evaluation is a critical step of ensuring their appropriate use.

The Health Economic Research Group (HERG) develops and applies tools and methods to estimate the value of medical innovations, including e.g. new diagnostic tests, prevention strategies, digital solutions and disease-modifying drugs for Alzheimer’s Disease. Our research helps determine how these innovations are best used to improve health and provide value for patients, caregivers and society as a whole. In this work we leverage data sources such as health care databases, registries, population-based studies, research cohorts, surveys and clinical trials. We are a multidisciplinary team including health economists, statisticians, physicians, epidemiologists that collaborates extensively with research groups nationally, internationally as well as within Karolinska Institutet.

Your mission

You will be involved in all aspects of research conducted in the HERG including modelling studies, retrospective database analyses and prospective observational studies. This includes formulating hypotheses and research questions, writing grant proposals, study protocols, and analysis plans, conducting data analyses, writing reports and manuscripts, participating in publication processes and communicating results at scientific conferences. You will participate in national and international research consortia collaborating with leading research groups and innovative companies. Supervision of doctoral student(s) is also an integral part of the work.

The position is for temporary employment for two years.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, ageing research or a closely related field. Strong experience with registry-based research and statistical methods for observational data analysis is required. Data management and analysis using e.g. STATA, SAS or R, and experience with prediction modeling is meritorious. Written and spoken fluency in English is essential, and working knowledge of Swedish language is a merit as the position will involve developing study materials in Swedish. The work requires close collaboration with others, which is why flexibility and good communication and collaboration skills are of great importance. A high degree of accuracy and independence is also important for the position. Experience from neurodegenerative disorders and a clinical background is meriting.
