Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Research at the department is focused on how different societal and individual factors affect population health, and to develop and evaluate structural and individual-oriented interventions. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department has 12 research groups, about 110 PhD students and about 140 employees.

The position is full-time and temporary. The position is placed in the PRIME health research group (Prevention, Intervention and Mechanisms in Public Health). Our research themes include mental health, parental health and support, reproductive health, cardiovascular health, physical activity and health impacts of climate extremes.

Your mission

As a postdoctoral researcher you are expected to contribute to build a new interdisciplinary research field on health impacts of extreme events under global changes with a specific focus on vulnerable groups. Specifically, the position focuses on two overarching themes over a two-year period: contributing to transnational studies and investigating the health impacts of an extreme. You will use population-scale linked electronic health records study across Sweden, the UK, Italy and Spain to examine the impacts of respiratory virus infections during pregnancy on maternal and infant health and the adaptation to non-optimal and extreme temperature among vulnerable groups.

You expect to closely work and interact with our academic partners (University of Cambridge, Uppsala University, University of Bristol, Human Technopole, ISGlobal, SMHI) and with other groups within the Karolinska Institutet, and to supervise students. You will also be a fellow of the Swedish Center of Climate impacts and be involved in its activities.

For us, it is of utmost importance to support your aspirations, goals, personal and career development.
