The Department of Mathematics conducts research and provides education at undergraduate and graduate levels in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The number of employees is 130, including 40 PhD students. The Department has three research programs: analysis and probability, algebra and geometry, applied mathematics and statistics. For more information, please visit the department ́s webpage .

A post-doc position is available in the Department of Mathematics, to work with Associate Professor Anna Sakovich in the areas of Geometric Analysis and Mathematical General Relativity. The position is financed by Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation to recruit a foreign researcher for a postdoctoral position in Sweden, a part of the Program for Mathematics .

Duties
The duties of a Post-doc are primarily directed at their own research. The work may also involve, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), other departmental duties, mainly related to teaching courses.

The aim of the research is to study various problems in mathematical general relativity and to develop geometric and analytic methods for the study of such problems. Of special interest are problems concerned with establishing a lower bound for the mass of spacetimes with certain asymptotics using methods from the calculus of variations, geometric measure theory and geometric PDEs.

Requirements
PhD degree in mathematics or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in mathematics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

The candidate should have a good command of spoken and written English, knowledge of Swedish is not a requirement.

Additional qualifications
A strong background in geometric analysis will be an advantage as well as earlier research results in the areas of geometric analysis and/or mathematical general relativity.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Full time position. Starting date 1 september 2024 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
