Offer Description
The position
This position is generously funded by Cancerfonden (the Swedish Cancer Foundation).Salamanders are highly resistant to tumor formation, but the mechanisms behind this ability remain unclear. Come unravel these mechanisms with us! As a postdoc in the Regenerative Immunology lab, you will apply both wet and dry lab approaches to study the incredible cancer resistance mechanism inherent to salamanders.
We firmly believe that the next generation of scientists will be well versed in both computational and experimental sciences. We therefore highly encourage those who are interested in gaining experience in either realm to apply. This project will make use of CRISPR combined with high throughput screening to identify the functional underpinnings of cancer resistance in salamanders. We strongly encourage Individuals from diverse or underrepresented backgrounds to apply!
The lab and environment
The postdoc position is placed in the Regenerative Immunology Lab. The research team is led by Associate Professor Nick Leigh, and is currently composed of a postdoc, two PhD students, two MSc students, and a technician (https://leighnd.github.io/people/ ). We are committed to nurturing an inclusive environment, one founded on mutual respect and support. We are also big promoters of open science, tool development and sharing, and are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and creative team! We are located in the beautiful city of Lund, Sweden, and are embedded within the Lund Stem Cell Center and Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine. This stimulating environment provides a variety of training and teaching opportunities. In addition, Sweden provides a prime environment for early career researchers, with a variety of grants aimed at postdocs acquiring their own research funding and access to state-funded childcare.
