Job description
The postdoctoral position is part of the Smart Dat project (https://lnu.se/en/research/research-projects/project-smart-dat/ ), focused on supporting small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector in their transition towards more automated and digitalized processes. As a postdoctoral you will be part of a vibrant research team aiming to revolutionize the manufacturing domain through cutting-edge technology and innovation. In this project we aim to enhance automation and digitalization for SMEs in the manufacturing sector within the Linnaeus region. The project’s objectives are to strengthen innovation, provide increased access to applied research, and thereby boost productivity and competitiveness among SMEs.

The project focuses on knowledge enhancement and promotes technology adoption in an existing demonstration facility. By facilitating long-term investments, it prepares SMEs to effectively address future challenges, recognize opportunities in automation and digitization, and navigate global competition and societal shifts.

The domain for this position is industrial engineering, and the focus area is the automation and digitalization of manufacturing. The key responsibilities could include:

  • Conduct applied research in digitalization within the manufacturing sector, with a focus on developing and implementing innovative solutions for SMEs.
  • Collaborate in the design and execution of experiments and projects within the project’s demonstration facility, showcasing the application of new technologies and practices.
  • Perform data analysis, employing advanced analytics and visualization techniques to derive insights from multi-dimensional data, including production metrics and sensor data.
  • Conduct financial analysis, for example, cost-benefit analyses, investment evaluation for automation and digitalization solutions, and related areas, offering SMEs clear, actionable guidance for their investment decisions.
  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and programs aimed at upskilling SME employees in the relevant technological areas.
  • Actively participate in the Smart Dat project team, contributing to internal and external networking, knowledge sharing, and project dissemination activities.
  • Conduct high quality research and publish findings in top conferences and journals, as well as assist in teaching and mentorship when needed.
