We are now looking to appoint a postdoc in the Soft Electronics group, placed at the Department of Science and Technology in the Laboratory of Organic Electronics, Campus Norrköping.
Work assignments
The candidate will design new methods for stretchable laser-induced graphene (LIG) electrodes by exploring the structure-property relationship of how laser parameters and substrate composition affects morphology and the relevant conductivity, electrochemical and mechanical properties. Biomaterials such as lignin, cellulose, and gelatin, amongst others will be explored as substrates for the LIG electrodes. Once optimized, the postdoc will investigate the feasibility of the electrodes for an electrode-less battery concept by developing new electrolyte systems and perform their relevant electrochemical characterization. Integration of the developed battery cell into a wearable device will be explored. The work is part of an ongoing effort within the Soft Electronics Group in sustainable and stretchable energy devices and the project will be highly collaborative within the group (Asst. Prof. Aiman Rahmanudin), LOE and external partners.
As a postdoc you are expected to assist in the leadership of the scientific work within your area and to guide students. Responsibilities can increase in relation to demonstrated abilities. The host has an excellent track record (>50% success rate) in acquiring Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships and the hired candidate is encouraged to develop an application supported by the host.
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
A suitable background for this position is a PhD in materials science, nanoscience, material chemistry, chemistry, or a related field. Experience in stretchable electronics and laser-induced graphene are considered merits. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with complementary and transferable skills with the desire to explore and learn new scientific topics, has excellent problem-solving skills and great teamwork ability. Research at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics is carried out predominantly in English, so relative fluency is favorable.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
The workplace
The Soft Electronics group is an international team led by Prof. Klas Tybrandt and is part of the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE). We develop composite materials, design concepts and devices for soft and deformable electronic and energy systems. Areas of special interest are bioelectronics and neural interfaces, stretchable (semi)conductors, energy harvesting/storage, and actuators. Many of our projects involves national and international collaborations including a variety of competences. Prof. Tybrandt is the recipient of the ERC CoG 2022 and Wallenberg Academy Fellow 2021. At the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) we explore electronic and optical properties of organic semiconductors, biomaterials from the forest, and hybrid organic materials. We share a common interest in utilizing the combination of electronic and ionic charge for use in healthcare and biology applications, energy, and the internet-of-things. Our research topics include synthesis, material science, theory and modeling, device physics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and system design. Our activities span the range from basic research to commercialization, the latter carried out in close collaboration with the institute RISE. LOE currently has ~140 researchers and research students divided into 8 units, each led by a principal investigator. Read more at www.liu.se/loe
