Work assignments 

Your tasks will consist conducting research in medical genetics and epigenetics with a focus on research on the epigenetic mechanisms behind sex-bias in pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). The project will also include the study of how skewed X inactivation may contribute to T-cell-related disease. You will be part of an active research group where you are expected to present your work at both local and international meetings.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.


Qualifications

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

We are looking for you who have a PhD in medical genetics and meet the following requirements:

  • SMART-Seq2 of primary human lymphocytes
  • EM-Seq library preparation, sequencing and bioinformatics analysis
  • Extensive experience of DNA methylation analysis, including 5hmC and 6mA in human cells
  • Bioinformatics expertise, especially with respect to DNA methylation in cancer
  • Flow cytometry of human T-cells
  • Experience of whole exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing, whole methylome sequencing, mRNA sequencing, total RNA sequencing and targeted sequencing
  • Extensive experience in the analysis of skewed X-inactivation in humans is essential
  • Molecular biology techniques, such as Western Blot, ELISA, PCR

We also see that you have experience in writing research reports for publication in journals of the highest international standard as well as grant applications for external funders. The ability to work independently and to drive the development of new research ideas is highly valued.


The position requires very good knowledge of spoken and written English, as well as good knowledge of spoken and written Swedish. Experience of teaching at university level, including teaching via problem-based learning, is highly meritorious. If you also have experience with Electrophoretic mobility shift assay, that is a plus.

The workplace

You will work at the Division of Children's and Women's Health (BKH) , in Colm Nestor's research group that combines clinical research, genomics and big data analysis to gain insights into the molecular origins of the disease.


The employment

This employment is a temporary contract of 6 months. Fulltime.
