Work assignments 

You will be working within the research environment Language and Culture, which comprises the fields of literary studies and language studies and interaction analysis. Your proposed project should be suitable for this research environment. An interest in inter- and multidisciplinary research and the dialogue between research areas and fields that characterizes the research environment Language and Culture is of great importance for the position.

For this position, we especially welcome projects focusing broadly on space and place, for example within spatial literary studies or geocriticism. The project can also deal with issues of place in relation to other theoretical perspectives and applied to contemporary as well as historical material.

As a co-worker within the research environment, you are a productive and active participant who contributes to the seminars with presentations of ongoing research as well as feedback and comments on the work of others. You value a lively and inspiring seminar culture. We expect you to be present in the workplace to a high degree.

You are expected to carry out a research project that generates scholarly publications within this postdoctoral position. You are expected to publish your results primarily in English or Swedish.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.


Qualifications

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

We are seeking applicants who have a PhD in Literary Studies or a similar subject with a convincing Literary-Studies orientation or who have carried out research of high relevance for Literary Studies. Documented scientific skills evidenced by independent research of high quality as well as the ability to independently plan research and formulate research questions are requirements for the position. You must have demonstrated independence as a scholar through additional peer-reviewed publications since defending your dissertation. It is an asset if you have received previous research grants or stipends. It is an asset if you have documented experience of teaching within Literary Studies. It is an asset if you have documented skills in research cooperation.

Fluent spoken and written Swedish or English is a prerequisite for the position.

The holder of the position as a postdoctoral researcher is expected to be both self-motivated and collaborative. You are to be independent and take your own initiatives but also value cooperation and dialogue. You are to contribute to the professional development of the workgroup, collegial working methods, and social cohesion. You are to be flexible and have the ability to navigate between different types of scientific contexts.


The workplace

You will be working within the research environment Language and Culture – a meeting place for research within language and literary studies, unified by a shared interest in the interplay between language and culture in everyday, literary, medial, artistic, and professional contexts (see more here: https://liu.se/en/research/language-and-culture ). The research environment organizes a weekly seminar series in which the postdoctoral researcher is expected to actively participate.


The employment

This employment is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years. The employment is full-time.

Starting September 1, 2024 or by agreement.
