The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 520 employees and a revenue 2022 of 518 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Your mission

The new biostatistician will provide statistical support to the researchers at ARC in the areas of epidemiology, psychology, sociology, and clinical research. The candidate will participate in:

  • planning and designing of research studies
  • statistical analyses and programming
  • interpretation and dissemination of scientific results
  • data management in collaboration with database developers

ARC can provide excellent support and an ideal environment for a biostatistician to thrive as a researcher and collaborator. The new biostatistician will be offered the opportunity to participate in conferences and workshops and be involved in the activities of ARC.

This is a temporary position of one year, with the possibility of extension.


Your profile

A degree in biostatistics, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related field is expected. Proficiency in the use of statistical software (e.g., SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, S-plus) is required.

Strong skills in applying a diverse range of statistical methods, including latent class and cluster analysis, structural equation modelling, multilevel longitudinal analysis, dimensionality reduction analysis, etc., are essential. Effective communication skills are important, as the positions will involve collaborating with non-statistical researchers. The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is necessary. An interest in professional development in biostatistics is highly appreciated. Very good English skills in speaking and writing are an absolute requirement for the position.

Previous experience in research or consulting in some public-health-related area is desirable.
