Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
Come and join us at the Research Unit of Molecular Neurobiology at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics , Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm. In the research group led by Professor Goncalo Castelo-Branco , we are particularly interested in the molecular mechanisms defining the transcriptomic and epigenomic states of oligodendrocyte lineage cells, intending to design epigenetic based-therapies to prevent and treat neuroinflammation in demyelinating diseases. Our research group has solid expertise in single-cell and spatial omics technologies to identify for instance several cell states within the oligodendrocyte lineage in development and disease (Science 2016, Dev Cell 2018, Nature Medicine 2018, Nature 2019, Nature Biotechnology 2021, 2022, Neuron 2022, Nature 2023).
Your mission
In this role, you will use a wide array of bioinformatics tools to identify diverse oligodendroglia epigenetic states in murine and human-derived data. You will be responsible together with the group’s senior data scientist for developing and internalising appropriate algorithms, techniques and datasets to advance our ability to rapidly discover epigenetic profiles. You will also contribute and enhance our data analysis capabilities on complex, high-dimensional omics data. Further, you will be contributing to projects for NGS-applied technologies to ensure that results are scientifically robust and well-documented.
Your profile
We expect you to demonstrate a passion for driving scientific questions and being service-orientated, capable of receiving and analysing input from multiple fields and deciding on a focused course of action. A consistent track record of delivering analytical solutions for academic needs is essential. You can work independently and have a positive, result-oriented and problem-solving attitude.
- Master’s degree in bioinformatics, computer science or equivalent documented work experience.
- Experience establishing and developing data analysis workflow, quality control and archiving for multiple academic research projects.
- Expertise in single-cell DNA/RNA sequence-based analysis, such as scCUT&Tag, CITEseq, or high dimensional data analysis (omics), CRISPR screening and single nucleotide polymorphisms discovery through NGS.
- Expertise in spatial transcriptomics and epigenomics such as DbiTseq.
- Proficiency in working in Linux environment, interactive computational notebooks such as Jupyter or similar with languages such as R, Python, Perl, scripting and standard command line tools.
- Solid experience creating, docking, and versioning robust data analytics environments.
- Understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and human physiology in the context of neuroscience, multiple sclerosis and oligodendroglia lineage in both health and disease.
- Excellent English, spoken and in writing.
