Offer Description
Job description
The Hultgren Laboratory at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is offering 3 postdoctoral research positions within advanced material characterization and/or modelling of structure-property relations in metallic materials with complex microstructures.
In order to design new sustainable metallic materials, especially for load-bearing applications, it is critical to understand the interaction between microstructure, micromechanics and the macroscopic mechanical behavior. Hultgren Laboratory is currently taking major initative along this research direction by the recruitment of three PhD students and 3 postdocs. The announced positions will be performed in connection to the larger programs; NEXT (NEutron and X-ray science for industrial Technology transitions) competence center, Center for Mechanics and Materials Design (MMD), and Center for X-rays in Swedish Materials Science (CeXS), offering the right candidate an excellent opportunity for further growth via working in an ecosystem including universities, research institutes, companies and infrastructures on challenging questions within materials science and engineering.
For the specific postdoc positions we are seeking candidates that want to further develop their competence in advanced materials characterization and/or materials modelling and contribute to cutting-edge research in in mechanical/physical metallurgy. The main objectives of these positions are: (a) to develop and implement advanced lab-scale and large-scale (synchrotron and neutron facility) characterization methods, e.g. micromechanical testing, TEM, SAXS, WAXS, 3DXRD; (b) to probe relation between structure and properties on micro-/macro-scale through in-situ/ex-situ methods, and (c) to develop and validate microstructure-sensitive multiscale computational models, e.g. CPFEM, considering various microstructures and loading conditions.
What we offer
- A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future
- Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
- Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
- Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH
- Opportunity and support to develop expertise via access to a broad range of advanced materials characterization instruments at Hultgren laboratory and large-scale infrastructures, e.g. PETRA III and ESS
- Opportunity to collaborate closely with leading national and international researchers in academia, institutes, infrastructures and companies

- Express yourself very well in English, spoken and written, as this will be required in day-to-day work
- Research expertise
- You are self-motivated with a strong ability to work with independence and to run projects
- You also have collaborative abilities and teaching abilities
Preferred qualifications
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
