You ‘d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our IT for Innovation Services department

The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes.

The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities. The platform is based on three pillars: a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, a cognitive analytics pillar and an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).

How will you contribute?

LIST is looking for a motivated candidate to work on national projects related to the field of cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones), investigating how they can be part of future generation network (5G and beyond-5G). Such a research work might require simulations activities to evaluate the signal propagation and attenuation over different channels: air-to-ground, ground-to-air and air-to-air communications and the different possible interfering signals in order to measure the quality of the wireless communication provided by the UAV. Additional challenges will be considered in order to define an optimal placement of UAVs, that guarantees the required Quality-of-Service (QoS) to a maximum number of ground terminals. The research findings will be deployed in dedicated use cases such as for logistics and surveillance, or others.

In this regard, it is also required to develop intelligent solutions to study user's mobility by leveraging efficient machine learning models. These latter could be used, within the metaheuristic framework, to optimize the drone placement and trajectory in order to provide for instance a dynamic on-demand service.

Finally, you will be in charge of disseminating and promoting the research activities that will be carried out, whether through publications, patents, prototype development or technical reports. This can potentially be done through a PhD research work.
