Offer Description
IRTA is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Researcher in Crop Modelling and Agroecology to join our dynamic team at IRTA, Sustainable Field Crops Program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agroecology and agronomy, with specific expertise in soil-plant-atmosphere systems modelling, programming, and predictive analytics. This role is crucial for developing advanced crop models to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability in response to climate change.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
-Lead the development and application of empirical and process-based crop models.
-Analyse the impact of climate change and crop management on crop productivity, nitrogen cycling, and water use efficiency.
-Develop decision support tools and yield forecasting platforms using crop models, remote sensing data, and advanced data analytics.
-Collaborate with farmers and agricultural advisors to implement optimal nitrogen and irrigation management practices.
-Mentor junior researchers and contribute to academic and training programs.
-Work collaboratively with a network of researchers, industry experts, and local farmers to test and refine agricultural practices.
-Engage in interdisciplinary research projects that cross the boundaries of agronomy, hydrology, and environmental science.
-Contribute to the scientific production of the research and innovation activities of the Program.
-Share insights and recommendations with the agricultural community to promote sustainable practices in dryland and supplementary irrigation farming.

Skills/Qualifications
Required qualifications and experience:
-PhD in Agroecology, Agronomy or related field.
-Proved experience as a Crop Modeller in academic and applied settings.
-Extensive knowledge of climate change impacts on agriculture and the development of sustainable farming practices.
-Demonstrated success in leading research projects and teams.
-Strong publication record in high-impact journals.
-Strong communication and presentation skills.
-Excellent skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Specific Requirements
Desirable requirements:
-Proficiency in programming languages suitable for statistical modelling and simulation.
-Proficiency in statistical analysis, experimental design, and crop simulation models.
-Innovative thinker with a track record of translating research into practical applications.
