Deadline: 29 Mar 2024

The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research ' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and theCode of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role

Chromatin regulation has been related to a number of organism and cellular mechanisms, such as development and differentiation. The deregulation of chromatin profiles has been associated, thus, to the development and progression of multiple diseases, such as cancer, immune, metabolic and degenerative diseases. In this context, the identification of chromatin profiles and the comparison between different conditions is essential to understand the role of epigenetics in the development of such diseases as well as to follow-up possible treatments. FLEA-ChIP is a novel technology developed in the lab able to profile chromatin features from ultra-low input samples, such as liquid biopsies and rare or scarce samples. In collaboration with Oryzon Genomics, and with the goal of understanding the role of chromatin modifiers and histone modifications in the progression of rare diseases, the selected candidate will work in the experimental and computational analysis of clinical samples from healthy and diseased donors by FLEA-ChIP. The candidate will also participate in the implementation of the FLEA-ChIP in other contexts and in the further development of the technology.

About the team

The overarching theme of the research in our lab is the understanding of the information encoded in genomic sequences, and how this information is processed in the pathway leading from DNA to protein sequences. More specifically, we are interested in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression and RNA processing, the relationship between molecular phenotypes and higher order endophenotypes and organismal phenotypes, and the identification of functional regions on the genome of all living beings. We are also committed to the development of experimental and computational tools to perform Genomics studies.
