Offer Description
CREAF is seeking for a researcher to work in the CARDIMED (Climate Adaptation and Resilience Demonstrated In the MEDiterranean region) with ref. 101112731, mainly, CREDIBLE (Building momentum and trust to achieve credible soil carbon farming in the EU) with ref. 101112951, projects, both funded by the European Commission and AgriREGENCAT (develop and implement critical elements to respond to the climate emergency, the projections of environmental, social and market changes for the coming decades) with ref. 07795 funded by Departament d'Acció Climàtica, Alimentació i Agenda Rural.
CARDIMED's goal is to build Climate Resilience in the Mediterranean biogeographical region by deploying the digital infrastructure to harmonize the data collection and evaluation processes, providing open data to all the actors involved in the Nature based Solutions (NBS) value chain and integrating crucial functions for Climate Resilience. While CREDIBLE’s goal is to build momentum and trust for the implementation of carbon farming in the EU by setting up and moderating a Network of Networks for favoring transparency, environmental integrity, and methodology standardization in soil carbon accounting.
A full-time contract is offered (37.5h per week), with a planned incorporation in April 2024 with an initial duration of 24 months, with possibility of extending it if required and if the budget allows. The salary offered is €34,392.69 gross annual.
TASKS:
- Processing soil biodiversity samples to sort soil nematodes, soil microarthropods and soil protists at least at the functional level for the CARDIMED and REWEEDING projects.
- Participating in six field soil sampling campaigns in different European Mediterranean countries (about one week work per campaign) and in two more campaigns in Catalonia.
- Cooperating in defining soil quality and soil biodiversity indexes based on nematodes, arthropods, protists and microbial DNA data for both projects.
- Cooperating in writing monitoring programs to evaluate the effect of different Nature Based Solutions on soil biodiversity, in the framework of the CARDIMED project.
- Participating actively in data treatment and scientific publication in both projects.

Skills/Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD in Biology, Pharmacy, Agronomy or equivalent fields.
- Proved experience in nematode extraction, preparation and classification.
- Experience in soil ecology research and valorization.
- Readiness to work physically in the CREAF labs and to travel to other countries for field campaigns of about one week in duration.
- Familiar with the relationships between soil biodiversity and soil environmental services
- Experience in statistical data processing, and knowledge of the adequate software for carrying out scientific literature reviews and publication.
- Advanced knowledge of written and spoken English.
Specific Requirements
ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS:
- Experience in interpreting soil physical and chemical analyses and disposition to cooperate in this type of lab analyses under expert monitoring.
- Willingness to be trained in microarthropod and protist handling and functional classification.
- Contrasted capacity to team up with other technicians and researchers.
- Experience in writing of technical reports and scientific publications.
- Candidates who have a recognized disability and accredited equal to or greater than 33% will be prioritized, as long as the disability is compatible with the proper performance of the job.
