Offer Description

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in Dr. Jose Berrocal’s research group. This position will be funded by ERC Starting Grant.

ICIQ is one of the world’s internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas: SustainableCatalysis, Renewable Energy and Health. ICIQ is looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the group of Dr. Jose Berrocal. The successful candidate will work on synthesis and mechanical characterization of photo- and mechano-responsive polymer materials.

 

Responsibilities

  • Thermal and mechanical characterization of polymer materials with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal gravimetric anaylsis (TGA)
  • Assist the supervisor in the daily supervision of the PhD students
  • Synthesis of small molecules to be used for sensing applications
  • Study the photo- and mechano-responsive behavior of polymers with setups combining microtensile testing and optical probes measuring transmittance spectra
  • Production of written reports and presentations to update the group/supervisor

 

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry or Materials science
  • Level of English equal to B2 or higher
  • Prior experience with small reparation of laboratory instrumentations
  • Ability to work independently and in teams

  • Willigness to undergo a robust training in soft skills and mentoring
  • Active participation in discussion meetings and brainstorming sessions
  • Willigness to coach/collaborate with PhD students
  • Willigness to contribute in project writing

 

We offer:

  • A 3-year full-time position.
  • Remuneration according to individual’s qualifications/experience
  • Annual salary split in twelve monthly payments
  • Incorporation: June/July 2024.
