Offer Description

POLYMAT (https://www.polymat.eu/en/home ) is a research center devoted use-inspired fundamental research in polymers enabling to address some of the technological needs of the 21st Century in energy, health and sustainability. The center includes more than 210 international researchers that have access to state-of-the-art equipment. Research is conducted in the whole range of TRL (technology readiness level) often in close collaboration with companies.
We are seeking to appoint a distinguished researcher as Scientific Director.
We look for a visionary leader responsible for
• Promoting the center reputation of excellence, both nationally and internationally.
• Leading and implementing the medium and long-term scientific strategy of the center.
• Ensuring the smooth and successful operation of the center.
• Attracting, developing and retaining researchers (meeting the goals of Gender balance) and coaching and empowering researchers
• Ensuring financial stability (increasing funding attraction, effective management of resources, …).
• Encouraging and facilitating interdisciplinary and innovative research both internally and with third parties.
• Ensuring effective internal communication
• Coordinating technology transfer and IP protection
• Strengthen the network of collaborations with academic institutions and industries at local, national and international levels.
• Nurturing the relationships with the University of the Basque Country and the Provincial, Basque and Spanish Governments.
• Developing her/his own research group.
The successful candidate should have
• An international recognition in the polymer field as an innovative researcher.
• Extensive experience in people leadership and managing large research groups.
• Strong record of accomplishment in attracting research funding from local, national and international bodies, as well as working with industry.
• A wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional bodies.
Presence in the editorial board of leading journals in the field and experience in launching start-ups are desirable.

Term and conditions
