Offer Description

The successful candidate will be a post-doctoral researcher with experience in conducting research with infants, with a strong focus on language acquisition and linguistic abilities, as well as some experience with animal research applied to cognitive science.

 

The candidate will also have strong knowledge of data analysis and computational skills, including the use of softwares such as R, Python, MATLAB.

The candidate will work along with the PI and the team, therefore communication and organizational skills will be very important. Part of the experiments will be conducted at Sant Joan de Deu Hospital, and part of the experiments at the Center for Brain and Cognition (CBC) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Both centers are located in Barcelona.

 

Responsabilities:

The successful candidate is expected to design experiments with newborns and infants using spectroscopy (e.g., fNIRS) as neuroimaging method, as well as experiments with rats as animal model. The candidate is expected to participate in data collection. The candidate is expected to analyze data, interpret results and write scientific articles and conference contributions. Some assistance in preparing the documentation for ethic approval of the experiments may be required.

Skills/Qualifications

- hold a Master Degree/MSc in Neuroscience, Psychology or any related field
- hold a Doctorate degree/PhD in Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Biomedicine, Psychology or any related field, with a focus on psycholinguistics & language learning in infancy
- have at least 4 years of experience in conducting experiments with infants on the topic of language acquisition
- have experience with experimental techniques typically used with infants (e.g., eye-tracker, fNIRS, and behavioral techniques such as Head-Turn Preference Procedure, Looking-While-Listening)
- have some experience working with rats
- strong statistical skills (e.g., multilevel/mixed models, Bayesian statistics)
