Visiting Associate Professor, Photography

The faculty member will teach four classes in an academic year (2 + 2 load) and supervise Photography Final Year Project (FYP). Though the primary responsibility is to teach traditional and digital studio photography courses as well as moving image courses, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate teaching versatility in other related disciplines such as History of photography, aesthetic theories, and visual anthropology.

Candidates must demonstrate the potential to bring international visibility to the school through academic scholarship or creative activity. The school expects a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; school and university committee service; and community engagement.

The ideal candidate's research and pedagogy will demonstrate material, formal, and theoretical engagement with photography and media art, informed by a broad knowledge of the history of the discipline and its contemporary practice. The School is seeking an esteemed artist and educator with an active record of high-quality research and professional activity to expand photography in the context of interdisciplinary practice. Applicants should have an understanding of and engagement with historical and contemporary issues.

International applicants with a background in transdisciplinary and multicultural practice and research are encouraged. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research/creative production profile, as well as a commitment to teaching and service to the school. An open, collaborative approach, and willingness to work across areas and departments of the school and university, is a priority. This position will also involve administrative activities and committee participation. The salary and level of appointment offered will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
