NTUitive Pte Ltd (‘NTUitive’) is the innovation and enterprise company – and a wholly-owned subsidiary – of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore). NTUitive manages the University’s intellectual property, promotes innovation, supports entrepreneurship, and facilitates the commercialisation of research.

We are seeking to hire a Senior Assistant Director for Intellectual Property (IP) Management in NTUitive.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform patent, literature and internet prior art searches in a variety of technical fields.
  • Analyse prior art search results and evaluate technology/invention disclosures to determine if they meet the statutory requirements of patentability.
  • Prepare and present patentability and IP due diligence reports.
  • Strategise on the best mode of IP protection in view of the intended use of the IP.
  • Interact with faculty members and researchers, academic/industry research collaborators, as well as with external patent/law firms regarding IP protection matters.
  • Review IP clauses in existing and new agreements, such as IP management, research collaboration and license agreements.
  • Oversee the filing, prosecution and overall management of an IP portfolio (e.g. patents, copyright etc.)
  • Lead and mentor a team of IP managers and provide direction to achieve departmental goals.
  • Department lead for the collation, checking and analysis of IP statistical data, and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist the Director in developing and implementing strategies for the efficient and effective management of NTU’s IP assets.

Requirements:

  • Degree or postgraduate Masters/PhD qualification, in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. 
  • Graduate Certificate in IP Law, Postgraduate Diploma or Masters of IP and Innovation will be an added advantage.
  • At least 10-15 years of prior work experience in IP management and/or IP-related work.
  • Skilled in web-based research (e.g. using various online patent and journal databases) and in IP data analytical tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Possess strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Meticulous and possess good interpersonal, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Responsible, self-motivated and confident
  • Possess excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate a disciplined and detail-orientated approach in identifying, analysing applicable information/data, and in considering all relevant factors before making sound recommendations/decisions.
  • Ability to multi-task, assess priorities and make sound independent decisions and use own initiative.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and willingness to advance new ideas.
