The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is looking for a skilled and motivated Research Fellow, with expertise in robotics technologies and control, for research in soft robotics.

This project involves designing, optimization and fabrication of soft robotic gripper.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to designing, fabrication and testing of the soft robot

  • Contribute to modelling and control approach of the soft robot

  • Responsible for project management & coordination within the group 

  • To prepare and meet the project deliveries and milestones.

  • To advance the knowledge, to publish in leading journals and conferences.

Job Requirements: 

  • PhD in Mechanical/ Electrical/Materials/Biomedical Engineering or related fields

  • Experience in soft robotics and sensors and actuators is preferred

  • Familiar with any of the following: additive manufacturing, finite element analysis, model‐free control, pneumatic soft robots.

  • Good robot system integration and application experiences. Hands-on experiences on industrial robot controller and programming libraries are a plus.

  • Creative and independent in problem solving

  • Strong publication record and commitment to quality research

  • Team player with good interpersonal/communication skills

  • ​Strong background in mechanism design, control, optimization, finite element analysis or other relevant topics are encouraged to apply.

  • Proficiency in design and control the soft robots

  • Hands-on experience with industrial manipulator, robot system integration and application experiences are a plus.
