Research Fellow (Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS))

The Research Fellow will be a key member of the project team on Distributed Energy Resource Management System focusing on power/energy optimization algorithm development and deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & develop constraint optimization algorithms/tools for DERs deployment and planning with support functionalities.

  • Constrained optimization problem formulations the following: convex optimization, dynamic programming, NLP, MILP and MINLP.

  • Mathematical modelling of the system-level and device-level constraints of distribution networks with DERs and conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations using OPAL-RT.

  • Applications of stochastic programming/approximate dynamic programming approach.

  • Implementation of distribution and probability power-flow methods for DER-rich networks for enhanced system flexibility

  • Modelling of DER-based integrated grid ancillary services that maintain reliability and stability

Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical/Computer Engineering specialized in Power Systems Planning and Optimization

  • At least 2 years of postdoc research experience in Distribution Energy Resource Integration and power system.

  • Working knowledge in medium and low voltage network modelling, power-flow, and large-scale optimization involving convex optimization, dynamic programming, NLP, MILP and MINLP.

  • Working knowledge in data analysis for clustering and classification

  • Ability to work cohesively in an international team to drive the common project objectives.

  • Ability to communicate well in English and to present research ideas and findings clearly and concisely
