Job Description

A Research Assistant position is available immediately in Prof Marco's research group. The selected candidate will provide support to the Principal Investigator and the team in terms of research, laboratory and administrative needs

Research: 

  • Carry out assigned experiments

  • Organize, preserve, and present the results of the experiments in a logical manner

  • Record all assigned experiments and results properly and systematically

  • Analyse and plan further experiment under guidance

  • Assist in supervising, training and guiding attachment/undergraduate students where required

  • Perform experiments involving bench work, tissue culture, flow cytometry, western blot, cloning, NGS, etc.

 

Laboratory:

  • To plan and ensure the needs and requirements of the team in terms of consumables

  • Ensure that the lab is adequately stocked with clean glassware, minor equipment, chemicals, etc. required for experiments

  • Regular checks and maintenance of equipment

  • Assemble reagents, chemicals and media that are needed for experiments

  • Ensure that standard operating procedures and safety regulations are followed

 

Administrative duties:

  • Plan and ensure that the overall lab administrative needs of the team are met

  • Procurement of necessary equipment, chemicals, reagents as required by the lab or project

  • Maintaining a systematic and proper record of all purchases

  • Liaise with vendors and the administrative office to ensure proper purchase requisitions, goods delivery, and prompt payment of supplies

  • Any other ad hoc duties as required


Qualifications
  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology or in any related field

  • Prior experience in handling mammalian cell culture is a must

  • Team player and willing to learn

  • Strong background and working knowledge of basic molecular and cellular biology techniques, such as cell culture, cloning, real-time PCR and western blotting.

  • Knowledgeable in laboratory scientific resource material; laboratory equipment and its care. 

  • Knowledgeable in methods of scientific research and relevant scientific theories. 

  • Knowledgeable in basic principles, terminologies, practices used in cancer biology, examination of clinical and animal samples.

  • Preferred: Experience with various sequencing and other genomic techniques, and/or CRISPR genome editing is desirable but not necessary.

  • Adhere to Government guidelines and regulations pertinent to laboratory safety and security and IRB, OSHE & IACUC regulations

  • Packaging and shipping of diagnostic, infectious and hazardous materials. 

  • Appropriate computer operations, software, and peripherals. 

  • Ability to perform routine laboratory tests
